OUR DISTINCTIVES

A Calling not a Club.

Christian Business Men’s Connection is set apart as a unique marketplace ministry through relational one-on-one discipleship. Men are investing in other men, praying for each other, and intentionally engaging their lives to build spiritual reproducers. CBMC values men being actively engaged in their families, work, and communities by providing a network of teams that equip and train them to be on mission, with a purpose.

Prayer - We begin with prayer because Christ reveals the Father to men (Luke 10:22), the Father draws men to Christ (John 6:44) and the Spirit convicts men of guilt (John 16:8), we bring men before God before bringing God to men.

Calling - CBMC is a movement of business and professional men who believe God has called them to take Christ to the marketplace.

Relational Evangelism - We utilize the tool, The Ten Most Wanted Cards to identify and pray for the lost men whom we believe God wants us to reach with the Gospel. Evangelism begins with prayer, is most effective in a relational lifestyle, and is to be carried out with a sense of urgency.

Life-on-life Discipleship - The Word of God is our ultimate resource for teaching men who God is. Discipleship is relational as God often utilizes a variety of people in this process. We are called to be disciple-makers and this is most fruitful in one-on-one relationships. The hope is to see 3rd and 4th generation reproduction. The heart of discipleship is forming Christ in people as we discover, through the Word of God, who He is, His character, and His plans.

Team Ministry - We are called to function in an team environment (the body of Christ) and not independently. We need the gifts and support of each other. CBMC teams are devoted to Christ, one another, and the cause of the Gospel.

OUR LEADERSHIP

Bill Montross - CBMC Regional Director for the Carolinas

Bill Montross

Hello, I am Bill Montross, the CBMC Regional Director for the Carolinas. I retired from a career in Manufacturing and Supply Chain Management at IBM in 1992 and from a management consulting firm 9 years later to start my own consulting business. It was at this point, in 2001, that I was introduced to CBMC in Charlotte, NC. I was also very involved in men’s ministry as part of the leadership team at my church. I concluded my last major business project in 2009, and as I prayed about what was next, I had a very strong leading from the Lord that all of my experience – management and consulting from the business side, and men’s ministry and CBMC from the ministry side – was converging on CBMC. In April of 2010 I began the process of joining the CBMC Field Ministry Staff for the Charlotte area.

When I first engaged with CBMC in 2001, it became clear that I had been missing something in my Christian walk. As I prayed and studied with the men in our CBMC group, I realized that while I had accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior, I had not given Him Lordship of my life. The discipleship process I went through, using Operation Timothy, changed my life, almost 35 years after my salvation experience. It is that gap which has made me so passionate about the CBMC mission of evangelism and discipleship. I don’t want to see men miss what God has for them if they will yield and follow Him. I have been incredibly blessed as I have seen men receive Christ at our outreach events; walked with men one-on-one in Operation Timothy; and discussed personal, spiritual, business and ethical issues in our teams. But the greatest blessings have been the relationships I have developed through CBMC – 1st my personal relationship with Jesus Christ; next my wife and family; and finally the people I have interacted with in and around CBMC.

God is continuing to work in and through CBMC in our area. I believe our Marketplace Ambassador initiative presents an opportunity to bring together all believers in the region to be the ministers of reconciliation we have been called to be. I am honored to be a part of it, and would love to have you join us.

OUR HISTORY

90 years in the making.

CBMC began in 1930 as Christian Business Men's Committee in the United States in 1930, when a small group of Christian businessmen coordinated a series of pre-Easter prayer rallies. With the Great Depression in its second year, these men saw an urgent need for spiritual revival and took it upon themselves to plan a six-week evangelistic series of meetings at the Garrick Theater, in the Chicago loop area. Public response to the first gathering on January 6, 1931, was overwhelming, as more than 800 packed into the 800-seat facility for all six sessions. As the meetings were drawing to a close, the downtown Chicago business community wanted to continue the gatherings as more and more men were experiencing life change through their newfound relationship with Christ.

Similar groups were soon popping all over the nation: Atlanta, Washington, DC, Orange County, California, and many other large, medium, and small cities began staging their own version of these outreaches. The ministry moved its Support Center from Chicago to Chattanooga in the 1970’s. As the years passed, the work spread across the United States to fulfill an insatiable need for a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

The decade of the 70’s also saw the first release of a remarkable tool, known as Operation Timothy. There was a felt need for a discipleship tool to help men ignite their walk with Christ. OT was designed to be used for one-on-one applications where a mentor (whom we call a Paul, sits down with someone wishing to know more (a Timothy) and together they embark upon a transformational journey of exploring Christ’s word.

In the 1990’s, CBMC officially changed its name to Christian Business Men’s Connection, but no matter what the name, there have been tens of thousands of intentional businessmen that have made this ministry thrive. These businessmen embraced two core beliefs: share the gospel with those who don’t know the Good News and then go and make disciples: Be intentional about carrying out The Great Commission. (Matthew 28:19).

In the past few years, Operation Timothy has gone digital; likewise Living Proof, a reality-based video series was created to help share the gospel in a natural, caring, and Bible-centered lifestyle now called Living Proof Adventure. Find these tools here.
